The WTC, co-ordinated by EMEC Ecology, undertook a major national survey of roads which cross waterways for Highways England  (through Halcrow Group).

The survey included over 1500 river crossings across 21 English counties.

The aim was to identify potential danger points for the growing Otter population and advise on ways in which road casualties could be minimised.

The surveys involved specially trained surveyors from nine WTC offices providing national coverage with local experts
