Case Study - Enhancing the local natural environment using expert knowledge
For builders getting great results for wildlife and people means getting the best local advice.
Willmott Dixon is one of the largest independent construction companies in the UK, specialising in public buildings where people spend a lot of time – such as schools and leisure centres, housing and offices. We’re happier and healthier when we are able to regularly access high-quality natural spaces. Building great places for wildlife also means building great places for people.
Recognising this important connection, Willmott Dixon partnered with the Wildlife Trust Consultancies and worked with local ecologists with unrivalled knowledge of the local environment, habitats and biodiversity. This proved essential when teams were drawing up environmental project plans as the local expertise helps to ensure their construction projects enhance local biodiversity and leave a positive legacy.
“We already work hard to ensure we protect and support the local ecology around our projects; this partnership gives us extra firepower as we have a structure in place to access to the best local minds in each area”

The collaboration which was implemented through a framework agreement, helped Willmott Dixon improve its natural environment knowledge and expertise to nurture local habitats and as the Wildlife Trust Consultancies deploy local ecologists this provides an ongoing opportunity for us to engage with the site and the new occupiers, long after the construction project is complete.
